Happy Sunday My Friends!
I can’t tell you how often I hear folks (particularly women) declare - I’m not an artist. Meanwhile they show me a lifetime of exquisite works of art. Fascinating.
When do you claim an identity? What do you need as validation in order to feel comfortable claiming an identity? How do our identities make it hard for us to change?
Mindy is going to take you on an identity quest today and that’s very exciting to me.

Shannon Brags on Mindy:
Mindy is someone whose work I stand in deep admiration of. I connected with Mindy on Instagram and we were able to meet up in real life and stitch together when I was in Massachusetts. Now we hang out on Zoom on the regular and are cooking up some big things together (stay tuned). I find her to be thoughtful, inspiring, hysterical, and really clear on who she is right now and what she’s here to do.
Meet Mindy Tsonas Choi everyone…
About Mindy (formal edition):
Mindy's work is at the intersection of creativity, embodiment, identity, and social justice. She is an artist, activist and bridge builder, and also the founder of the Be Seen Project - an arts initiative resourcing and centering BIPOC creatives working to amplify marginalized voices and truths. She believes in using our unique superpowers for collective good and aims to bring more liberation and love to the world. A Korean American adoptee, queer intersectional feminist and modern day bohemian, She is also a life-long devotee to the underdog.
Today’s Inspiration:
I AM...
Identity is a powerful tool to understanding our social context and location, our privileges and marginalizations, as well as the unique aspects of Self which only you can name and claim. How we identify also often helps us understand the 'why' behind how we connect and what we create in the world.
Today, using the mantra "I AM", I invite you to create a visual representation of who you are in this moment. Let this serve as inspiration and a reminder that our identities are fluid and always ever changing, and that each of us always has full agency to decide which words, expressions and stories hold our truths. We can never be fully defined by any label, but honest self-inquiry can help us see the gaps and gifts of our perspective so that we might better learn and grow.
Have fun with this! You can collage, journal, stitch, draw... the possibilities are endless.
I use an intuitive collage process I created called Inner Alchemy Collage, as a way to see and be seen.
